It’s natural to have questions when you’re a new patient visiting a chiropractor for the first time. At Bence Chiropractic Wellness Center in Macomb, we want you to feel comfortable before you even walk through our doors. Knowing what to expect, what will happen during your first visits, and how we approach your care can make that first appointment a little easier.
From your first conversation with Dr. Pavel Bence, DC, CCWP, through your examination and regular visits, you’ll have opportunities to ask questions and understand the care you’re receiving. Our goal is to make you feel welcome, comfortable and supported every step of the way.
New Patient FAQs
What happens during my first chiropractic visit?
Your first visit begins with a conversation about your health history, current concerns and what brought you to our office. Dr. Bence will then perform a thorough evaluation based on your individual needs. This gives him the information he needs to understand what is happening and determine the appropriate next step in your care.
How long does my first appointment take?
Plan on approximately 45 minutes for your first visit. We allow more time for new patients so Dr. Bence can listen to your concerns, complete the necessary examination and gather the information needed to properly evaluate your condition.
Will I receive an adjustment on my first visit?
Your first visit is primarily about evaluating your health and understanding what is causing your problem. Dr. Bence reviews the findings from your examination, scans and any necessary X-rays before discussing his recommendations with you. Your first adjustment typically follows your report of findings.
Are X-rays required for new patients?
No. X-rays are taken when Dr. Bence determines they are necessary based on your history, examination and individual needs. When X-rays are appropriate, they provide additional information that helps him evaluate the condition of your spine and determine how to approach your care.
What is included in the $99 New Patient Special?
The $99 New Patient Special includes your initial consultation, full examination and detailed report of findings with Dr. Bence. It’s designed to give you the information you need to understand what he finds and decide whether chiropractic care is right for you.
How long do regular chiropractic visits take?
Once your initial evaluation and report of findings are complete, a typical regular visit takes about 15 minutes. With the groundwork already established, Dr. Bence can evaluate your progress, provide the care appropriate for that visit and get you back to the rest of your day.
Your First Visit
Your first visit is about understanding you, not simply where you hurt. Dr. Bence will talk with you about your health history, the concerns that brought you to the office and what you hope to accomplish through chiropractic care.
Your evaluation may include:
- Consultation and health history
- Neurological and orthopedic examination
- Surface EMG to measure electrical activity in the muscles along the spine
- Thermal scanning to identify patterns of temperature differences
- X-rays when necessary
These findings give Dr. Bence a more complete picture of your spinal health and help him determine the appropriate approach to your care.
Complete Your Forms Before You Arrive
You can save time at your first appointment by completing your new patient paperwork before coming to the office.
Your Second Visit
Your second visit is about understanding what Dr. Bence found.
He’ll sit down with you and review the results of your examination, scans and any X-rays that were taken. Rather than simply telling you what he recommends, he’ll explain what he sees, what it means and how it relates to the concerns that brought you to the office.
If chiropractic care is appropriate, Dr. Bence will discuss his recommendations with you and explain what your care may look like moving forward. You’ll also have time to ask questions so you understand the approach and the reasoning behind it.
Once your questions have been answered and you’re comfortable moving forward, you’ll be ready to begin care with your first gentle chiropractic adjustment.
Regular Visits
After your initial evaluation and report of findings, regular visits are much shorter. A typical appointment takes about 15 minutes.
Because Dr. Bence already understands your history and has established the groundwork for your care, he can focus each visit on evaluating your progress and providing the chiropractic care appropriate for that stage of your plan. Visits may also include gentle spinal traction or other therapies based on your individual needs.
Your care isn’t based on a one-size-fits-all schedule. We’ll continue to evaluate how you’re responding and make recommendations based on your progress and health goals.
